Original Version
A cardinal flew into the muddy March yard
Such a sharp red against the gloom---
They say cardinals are our loved ones
Come back to say hello--
And this Spring I needed your assurance
That you've moved on from pain to joy
Before I could melt this clod of grief with tears.
(Re(En)Visioned)
Into muddy March’s window the cardinal flew
A sharp flash, piercing gloom---
The one come back
to say – “still here”—
Dancing in memory’s cluttered room.
