Earscape

Earscape
what a blind woman in Gaza hears
by Kathi Wolfe

The blood red siren
song of shrapnel
hissing
in her bones

The victory cry
of hunger
circling
her baby’s belly

Her useless eyes,
wails from her acrid-
tasting mouth
singing

in bomb-scarred
harmony:
the siren song
won’t cease
without peace
