If you have not heard of Jack Livings, you should pick up his superb short story collection, The Dog, just released by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. These stories take place in China and are filled with characters whose lives are mired in the conflicts of daily living in a topography that is as different as the people who populate it.
You can read my interview with Livings in the Washington Independent Review of Books.
And for those of you in the Washington DC area, he will be appearing at Politics and Prose on Tuesday, August 12 at 7 PM.
