About Mike Maggio

Mike Maggio is the author of 10 books including poetry and fiction. His latest poetry collection, Let’s Call It Paradise (San Francisco Bay Press, 2022) won the International Book Awards for Contemporary Poetry in 2023.  In 2019, he was nominated for Virginia Poet Laureate, and he has served as both Northern Virginia Vice-President and Centennial Chair for the Poetry Society of Virginia. In 2007, he was the recipient of a grant from the Puffiin Foundation. His latest novella, Woman in the Abbey, will be released in February 2025.

Mike also serves as an associate editor for Potomac Review and writes book reviews for Washington Independent Review of Books. He has also translated both Arabic and Italian poetry.

A former Professor of English, Mike has a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature/Creative Writing (Queen’s College), a Maser’s degree in Applied Linguistics (University of Southern California) and an MFA in Poetry (George Mason University). He has taught at Northern Virginia Community College, the University of Southern California and at various institutions in Saudi Arabia and Jordan. He has given workshops and presentations at local and national conferences including NAFSA: International Association of Educators. He has also presented poetry workshops in and around the DC area including at Montgomery College, Greenline Poets, the DC Poetry Project, Shirlington Library and the Rappahannock Writers’ Conference.

Mike offers poetry workshops online for both individuals and groups and is available for events, workshops and appearances at poetry festivals and other gatherings. He also provides editing services for those who are interested in having their work reviewed and prepared for publication.
